Jazz incorporates a variety of dance styles and is a highly visual and powerful form of dance. Jazz encourages flexibility and instils a sense of strength in participants and involves kicks, turns, pirouettes, jumps and travelling diagonal work. It aims to build stamina, strength and flexibility.
A dance style which emanates that of the broadway stage. It open’s a curious crowd discovering the interesting fusion of ballet with dramatic acting. We learn different numbers from broadway shows such as West Side Story, Chicago, Legally Blonde and much more.
Tap dance is a type of dance characterised by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. Tap is a rhythmic & energetic dance style with many of our students mastering complex and visually spectacular routines.
The latest and most contemporary of our dance styles offered, our hip hop classes are designed for those students who want to learn the latest moves as seen on music videos. This dance style would be defined as being unrestricted & sharp, yet loose and includes a range of styles from funk, popping, locking, house, krumping, old school and more. It is a freestyle form of dance with emphasis on execution, body isolations and control and rhythm.
Classical ballet is a traditional and technical form of dance which provides the necessary grounding for all dance styles. The emphasis is on development of technique, building strength and helping to correct posture. It focuses on grace and discipline and improves posture, strength and flexibility. We offer examination classes (RAD syllabus based) and non-examination classes.
This is a very physical class designed to teach the basics or more advanced levels of acrobatics depending on the student’s level of exposure to this style previously. The class includes tuition in cartwheels, flips, one handed cartwheels, no hand cartwheels, walkovers, back walkovers, flexibility and coordination.
This class teaches students how to read and interpret a script, improvise in character, connect with an audience and perform on stage. We cover the fundamental aspects of the art of acting with a focus on physical movement and gesture. The singing class consists of vocal warm up, melody, correcting pitch, sounds, mouth shapes and projection.
Contemporary dance is a style that is influenced by both ballet and jazz. It is an expressive dance form which includes abstract formations and focuses on centering, alignment, contraction, release and suspension.
Lyrical is a dance style that embodies various aspects of ballet, jazz, acrobatics and modern dance. Lyrical dance is “strongly associated with clearly displayed emotional moods, fast-moving choreographic strategies, emphasis on virtuosic display, illustration of song lyrics, and, in group form, exact unison. The style is usually danced at a faster pace than ballet but not as fast as jazz.
ELITE PERFORMANCE CLASSES
These classes are specifically for our Elite team. The Elite team is a part- time training schedule specifically designed for young performers who have dreams of developing their talent to one day work in the entertainment industry.
Performers classes learn troupes in all forms of song and dance for competitions and concerts. It is an important foundation for stagecraft, which includes special awareness, confidence, learning to work as part of a team and projection of personality on the stage. This stage experience is a must for anyone wanting a career in performing arts.
The Elite team program is designed to create a fully rounded performer and covers all bases needed in today’s industry, from every dance style to vocal coaching and acrobatics. This program extends a dancer’s knowledge and technique to a new and higher level of training. With an emphasis on positive reinforcement and encouragement we aim to build a dancer’s confidence as well as style and technique.
